Ash Grove baseball grabs three more W's, stays undefeated
Lady Pirates smash Southwest, fall to Sarcoxie
The Ash Grove baseball and softball teams were both in action last week, with the baseball team picking up three wins, while the softball team split their games.
Baseball
On the baseball diamond, the Pirates traveled to Marion C. Early on Thursday, April 6, and came home with a 6-2 win. Ash Grove hosted Buffalo on Tuesday, April 4, and was able to win that game 8-3.
The Pirates started the week by traveling to Billings on Monday, April 3, and after falling behind 5-2 after three innings, battled back for the 9-6 win.
Billings led 3-0 after one inning and 5-2 after three innings, Ash Grove scored a run in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 5-3, before exploding for six runs in the seventh inning, capped off by a grand slam from Jon Rollhaus, to give the Pirates a 9-5 lead.
Billings scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 9-6.
Parker Crow was 4-5 with a home run and two RBI's, Bryce Davis went 3-3 with a double and an RBI and Rollhaus finished the game 1-3 with a home run and four RBI's.
“This was a big win for our team,” said head coach Berrah Brown. “We knew Billings was a great team coming in. They’re ranked fifth in Class 1 and they’ve got a lot of big guys that can hit well and they don’t make mistakes defensively. You can never count this team out.”
The Pirates are now 7-0 and hosted Diamond on Mondaym, winning XX-XX, and will be hosting Sarcoxie tomorrow.
Softball
The Lady Pirates traveled to Sarcoxie on Tuesday, April 4, and came home with an 8-6 loss for their trouble.
Earlier in the week, Ash Grove hosted Southwest (Washburn) and brought home a lopsided 13-4 win.
The Lady Pirates scored two runs in the first and second innings, eight runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning. Sarcoxie scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning.
Chelsey Andrus was 3-4 with an RBI, Jamalyn Atkinson went 3-4 with three RBI's and Meagan Hawkins finished 1-2 with an RBI. Hawkins also got the win, going four innings, allowing no runs while striking out seven.
Ash Grove's softball squad is now 9-7 on the season and were scheduled to travel to Marion C. Early on Monday and Marionville yesterday, before hosting Miller tomorrow night.
