Ash Grove baseball tops Marion C. Early, falls to Bolivar, Walnut Grove

The Ash Grove High School baseball team played three games last week, while the softball team was involved in two games.
In baseball, the Pirates traveled to Walnut Grove on Friday, April 26, but came home with a 10-5 loss.
The Tigers scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings, two runs in the third inning and five runs in the sixth inning. Ash Grove scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings and a single run in the seventh inning.
Draven Zeigler went 1-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI; Cody Byerly was 1-2 with two RBI’s and Deegan Vauter finished 2-4 with an RBI.
The Pirates hosted Bolivar on Tuesday, April 23, but fell to the Liberators 15-3 in five innings.
Bolivar scored two runs in the second inning, three runs in the third and fifth innings and seven runs in the fourth inning. Ash Grove scored one run in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning.
Zeigler was 2-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Cody Raney went 1-3 with an RBI.
Ash Grove opened the week traveling to Marion C. Early and came home with
a 3-2 win. Early jumped out to a 2-0
lead after the third inning, but Ash Grove answered back with two runs in the top of the fourth inning and a single run in the seventh inning to win the game.
Zeigler was 1-3 with a double; Dalton Carr went 1-2 with an RBI and Ethan Gray finished 1-3 with an RBI.
Softball
The softball regular sea- son came to an end for the Lady Pirates as they lost at Marionville on Thursday, April 24, 5-4. Earlier in the week they hosted, but lost, to Hollister 16-2 on Tuesday, April 22.
The Lady Pirates were the fifth seed in this week’s Class 1, District 11 tournament at Sarcoxie and played fourth seeded Miller on Monday, falling 10-6.
Mt. Vernon was the top seed; followed by Diamond, Sarcoxie, Miller, Ash Grove, Pierce City, Verona and College Heights.
The first round got under way on Monday, April 29, with Mt. Vernon taking on College Heights; Miller playing Ash Grove and Diamond playing against Verona. The semifinals were scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 and the championship game will be played today.
