Ash Grove baseball wins district championship, first game of sectionals

Ash Grove's Rust wins Class 1 state golf championship
The Class 2, No. 1 ranked Ash Grove High School baseball team ran their record to 21-0 by knocking off Marion C. Early in the championship game of the Class 2, District 12 tournament in Aurora, 10-2, on Tuesday, May 16.
The Pirates scored early and often in their win, as Elijah Morrison drove in Tyler Tummons with a single in the second inning to go up 1-0.
Ash Grove plated three more runs in the third inning on a Brock Mooneyham double and a Jon Rollhaus single to go up 4-0. The Pirates added another five runs in the fifth inning, as Rollhaus and Nate Trammell drove in runs before scoring another two runs on an error by Marion C. Early, to take a 9-0 lead.
Marion C. Early scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning but Ash Grove answered back with their final run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Pirates reached the championship game by defeating Pierce City 15-5 in the semifinal game earlier in the day.

Sectional action
Ash Grove played the Marionville Comets Monday, May 22, in the Class 2 sectional round in Aurora. It wasn't pretty for the Comets as Ash Grove came with the not only major offense but a stifling defense. The Pirates came away with the 13-0 win, a game that ended in the fifth inning thanks to a run-rule.
Now down to the final eight teams in the state, Ash Grove is scheduled to play Iberia at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, in the state quarterfinals at Ash Grove.

Postseason honors on baseball field
The Class 2, District 12 All-District baseball team has been released and the Ash Grove Pirates placed six players on the team, with Parker Crow, Bryce Davis and Brock Mooneyham named to the first team, while Tyler Tummons, Jon Rollhaus and Elijah Morrison were all named to the second team.
Ash Grove head coach Berrah Brown was named the Coach of the Year.
The Pirates and Miller both had six players named to the all-district team, College Heights, Marion C. Early and Pierce City each had five players named and Jasper had four players placed on the teams.
    
Rust wins state golf
Ash Grove's Asher Rust, continuing his season long domination on the links, won the Class 1 state golf title by three strokes, shooting a combined 149 for the two days. The Class 1 tournament was held on Monday, May 15, and Tuesday, May 16, in Columbia.
Brock Long, Rust's teammate on the Ash Grove squad, finished 29th, shooting a combined 177.
