Ash Grove baseball wins first district game, then loses same game on technicality

The Ash Grove High School baseball season came to an end at the Class 2, District 7 tournament in Joplin on Friday, May 10.
The Pirates actually defeated Greenfield, 7-5, in their opening round district
game but was forced to forfeit to Greenfield when it was discovered that Ash Grove used a pitcher that was over his pitch limit in the game. The forfeit gave Greenfield a 1-0 win. The Pirates end their season with a 10-7 record.
The Pirates hosted both
Lockwood and Marionville on Monday, May 6, splitting the double header, defeating Marionville but losing to Lockwood.
Against Lockwood, the Pirates lost 11-2, scoring their two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lockwood
scored single runs in the third and fourth innings; two runs in the fifth inning, four runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh inning.
Cody Raney was 2-3 with a double and an RBI; Billy Hatch went 0-2 with an RBI,
Dalton Carr was 1-3 with a run scored and Cody Byerly was 1-1 with two walks.
After falling behind 1-0 to Marionville in the top of the fifth inning, Ash Grove came back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and then held on for
the 3-1 win. Deegan Vauter finished
the game, 1-3 with a double and an RBI; Byerly went 0-1 in the game with an RBI, Carr was 0-2 with a run scored, Raney went 1-2 with a run scored and Draven Zeigler was 0-2 with a run scored.
