Ash Grove football beats Miller in close one

In a defensive struggle, the Ash Grove High School football team came from behind to knock off Miller, at Miller, 8-6 on Friday, Sept. 23.
After trailing 6-0 for the vast majority of the game, the Pirates Brock Mooneyham found pay dirt in the fourth quarter to tie the game at six. Ash Grove would convert on a two-point conversion to win the game 8-6 and improve their record to 4-1.
Mooneyham finished the game 8-18 for 53 yards and led Ash Grove with 125 yards rushing on 23 carries and a touchdown.
Ash Grove maintained their third place standing in the Class 1, District 3 standings with 40.93 points. Marionville still leads the district with 58.4 points, followed by Sarcoxie (51.03 points), Ash Grove, Thayer (32.88 points), Pierce City (31.6 points), Cabool (29.2 points), Miller (24.4 points) and Diamond (20.9 points).
The Pirates will play Harrisburg this Saturday at School of the Osage.
