Ash Grove Pirate baseballers beat Miller, lose to Pleasant Hope in close contest

Both the Ash Grove High School baseball and softball team split games last week, with baseball beating Miller and the softball team knock- ing off Lockwood.
In baseball, the Pirates traveled to Pleasant Hope on Thursday, April 18, but came home with a 4-3 loss in eight innings.
Ash Grove scored single runs in the first, fifth and seventh innings, while Pleas- ant Hope scored two runs in the first inning and single runs in the fifth and eighth innings.
Draven Zeigler went 2-3 with a home run and a double, scoring twice and knocking in a run; Cody Byerly was 1-4 with a double and Cody Raney finished 3-4 with two RBI’s.
On Tuesday, April 16, Ash Grove hosted and defeated Miller 6-4.
The Pirates scored three runs in both the third and fifth innings. Miller scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning.
Byerly went 1-2 with a triple and three RBI’s; Zeigler was 2-3 with a double and two runs scored and Raney went 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Softball
The Lady Pirates softball team hosted Lockwood on Thursday, April 18, and was able to hang on for an 8-5 win.
Riley Hammons had a bases loaded double to drive in three. Briley Bagley, Patsy Gorski, Maddie Mobley, Tay- lor Spickard and Alexis Long each had a hit in the win. Mobley got the win, allowing five runs on six hits with four walks and three strike outs.
Ash Grove traveled to Stockton on Tuesday, April 16, but came home with a 4-3 loss.
Emma Eagleburger, Spickard and Gorski each had an RBI. Gorski was 2-3 in the game and Makenzie Lutz, Long and Mobley all had hits in the game. Mobley took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk and three strike outs.
