Ash Grove Pirates defeat Buffalo Bison on the diamond

The Ash Grove High School baseball and softball teams were both in action last week, as the Pirates knocked off Buffalo, while the Lady Pirates had a rough week going 0-5.
In baseball, Ash Grove scored six runs in the first two innings and then held on for a 10-8 victory over Buffalo on Tuesday, April 2.
The Pirates added an- other three runs in the fourth inning and a single run in the sixth inning. Buffalo scored two runs in the second and
fourth innings, three runs in the fifth inning and a single run in the sixth inning.
Cody Byerly went 1-2 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI; Deegan Vauter was 1-3 with a double and a run scored and Dalton Carr finished the game 1-2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
The Lady Pirates hosted their annual Ash Grove Lady Classic on Saturday, April 6, but didn’t fare well dropping all three of their games, losing to Southwest
Washburn 5-1, Miller 16-6 and Greenfield 15-8.
The Lady Pirates traveled to Diamond on Tuesday, April 2 but came home with a 7-6 loss in eight innings.
Ash Grove scored two runs in the first and third innings and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Diamond scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings and hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh in- ning to tie the game up at 6-6. After the Lady Pirates failed to score in the top of the eighth inning, Diamond
ended the game with a walk- off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Maddie Mobley took the loss, going seven innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits with six walks and four strike outs. Patsy Gorski had a single and a double with two RBI’s and Briley Bagley had a double, three stolen bases and two runs scored.
Earlier in the week, Ash Grove hosted Southwest Washburn on Monday, April 1, but lost 17-4. Mobley got the Lady Pirates only hit in the game.
