The Ash Grove High School boys’ basketball team continues to roll, as the Pirates picked up two more impressive victories last week, to run their record to 6-0 on the season.
Ash Grove traveled to Greenfield on Friday, Dec. 9, and almost put up 100 points, as they won the game by 70, 97-27. The Pirates jumped out to a 23-2 first quarter lead and never looked back, leading 57-16 at the half and 81-25 by the end of the third quarter. "Our guys played well from the tip,” said head coach Grant Williamson. “It's always a good night when everyone gets the opportunity to see the floor." Brady Nicholson led Ash Grove with 25 points and Brock Mooneyham and Kyler Reece each ended the game with 12 points.
Ash Grove opened the week by traveling to Spokane on Tuesday, Dec. 6, and came home with a 64-41 win. The Pirates led 22-11 after the first quarter but Spokane battled back and held Ash Grove to 11 points in the second quarter to cut the Pirate lead to 33-30, that would be as close as Spokane would get. The Pirates played a smothering defense in the second half, holding Spokane to just 11 points, while cruising to the 23-point victory. "It was a battle in the first half, but our guys really dialed in on the defensive end in the second half and allowed us to separate," said Williamson. Nicholson led Ash Grove with 25 points, while Mooneyham and Tyler Tummons each chipped in 11 points.
The Pirates were scheduled to travel to Sparta last night before hosting Fair Grove on Friday night.

Lady Pirates
The Lady Pirates traveled to Greenfield on Friday, Dec. 9, and had a tough go, as they fell to Greenfield, 56-19. Greenfield jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and stretched that lead to 38-9 by the half. The Lady Wildcats outscored Ash Grove 18-10 in the second half to seal the win. Madison King led Ash Grove with 10 points.
Ash Grove opened the week by hosting Diamond on Tuesday, Dec. 6, and lost the game, 56-33. Diamond led 20-6 after the first quarter and 34-12 at the half. The Lady Pirates did put up 14 points in the third quarter but lost the game by 23 points. Cora Duit led Ash Grove with 15 points.
