The Ash Grove High School football team got back to their winning ways defeating Pierce City, 27-0, on Friday, Sept. 15, at Pierce City.
Hari Thompson got the Pirates on the board first with a 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. In the second quarter Cooper Burks hit Kyler Reece for a 49-yard touchdown strike to go up 13-0 seconds before the half.
The Pirates added two more scores in the third quarter on an Alex Acosta 20-yard touchdown run and a Burks 16-yard touchdown pass to Brady Nicholson to increase the Pirates lead to 27-0 by the end of the quarter. Neither team would score in the fourth quarter.
Burks led Ash Grove in passing going 10-for-17 for 151 yards and two scores. Reece led the Pirates with 87 yards rushing on 13 carries and 49 yards receiving on one catch with a touchdown. Acosta had 42 yards on the ground with a touchdown while Thompson added 14 yards on two carries with a score and Nicholson ended the game with 38 yards receiving on four catches with a touchdown.
With the win, the Pirates are now 3-1 on the season and moved up to fourth place in the Class 1, District 1 standings with 40.42 points. Marionville leads the district with 59.33 points, followed by; Portageville (54.05 points), Cabool (43.25 points), Ash Grove, Miller (38.08 points), Thayer (36.89 points), Charleston (31.83 points), Hayti (22.56 points) and Pierce City with 17.83 points.
The Pirates are scheduled to host Miller this Friday night.    

Volleyball
In volleyball, the Lady Pirates finished the week with a 2-2-2 record.
Ash Grove finished 1-1-2 at the Lady Bison Invitational at Buffalo on Saturday, Sept. 16, beating Crane 25-19 and 25-20, tying Forsyth 14-25 and 26-24 and Eldon 15-25 and 25-22, but losing to host Buffalo 23-25 and 20-25.
The Lady Pirates hosted Lockwood on Thursday, Sept. 14, and came away with a three-set victory, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-15. Earlier in the week, the Lady Pirates traveled to Buffalo on Monday, Sept. 11, and came home with a four-set loss, 11-25, 14-25, 25-22 and 17-25.
Ash Grove is now 5-5-2 on the season and were scheduled to host Skyline on Monday night before traveling to Diamond last night.
