Ash Grove Pirate football beats Harrisburg in back-and-forth

The Ash Grove High School football team added another win to their resume on Saturday, Sept. 30, when they traveled to Versailles and knocked off Harrisburg 30-20.
After trailing 12-0 early in the second quarter, the Pirates got a three-yard touchdown run from Ashton Olmedo to cut the lead to 12-8. Later in the quarter, Kyler Reece scored from two yards out to give Ash Grove a 14-12 halftime lead.
After Harrisburg retook the lead, 20-14 in the third quarter, the Pirates answered right back on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Cooper Burks to Brady Nicholson to retake the lead 22-20. Ash Grove added a final score in the third quarter on a Reece two-yard touchdown run.
Burks finished the game 9-18 for 156 yards and a touchdown. Reece led the Pirates in rushing gaining 123 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns. Olmedo had seven yards on four carries with a touchdown. Nicholson paced Ash Grove with 93 yards on six catches and a touchdown and Hari Thompson ended the game with 63 yards on three catches.
The Pirates are now 5-1 on the season and will travel to Clever on Friday night.
Ash Grove is still fourth in the Class 1, District 1 standings with 41.89 points. Marionville leads the district with 56.85 points, followed by; Portageville (52.51 points), Thayer (43.5 points), Ash Grove, Cabool (37.83 points), Miller (32.33 points), Charleston (31.13 points), Pierce City (25.78 points) and Hayti (18.2 points).

Ash Grove volleyball picks up a pair of wins last week
In volleyball, the Lady Pirates traveled to and beat Pierce City in three sets on Thursday, Sept. 28, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-19. On Tuesday, Sept. 26, Ash Grove won in five sets at Marionville, 26-24, 26-24, 17-25, 15-25 and 15-4.
Ash Grove now sits at 7-8-2 and were scheduled to host Sparta on Monday and Stockton yesterday before heading to Miller tomorrow night.
