Benson earns second state berth

Sophomore Izzy Benson will compete at the state golf tournament for a second year in a row. Benson shot an 89 at the district tournament at Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin, finishing 11th to earn all-district honors and advance to the state tournament.
The highlight of Benson’s round was a chip-in birdie on the par-three ninth hole.
“I chipped it in, ran up the hill to see if it made it in, and… it was like a Rocky moment. I said ‘Yeah!’ and threw my hands up,” Benson said.
The state tournament is scheduled for Oct. 17–18 at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin.
