Charles Augustus Schatz

Charles Augustus Schatz, Jr., 82, passed away on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2018. He was born to Emma Wieck and Charles A. Schatz, Sr., on Feb. 4, 1936. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Parochial School, Billings, until the eighth grade and graduated from Billings High School. He was active in FFA for 15 years and won national recognition for one of his projects. Schatz showed registered Guernsey cattle at the Ozark Empire Fair from age 8-20.
Schatz served in the Army for two years in Germany and four years as a Reservist. He attended SMSU for three years majoring in music. He was a Dairy Herd Improvement Association tester for four years in Christian County; Republic Fire Chief for four years and Republic/Clever Municipal Judge for 18 years.
Schatz retired from Dayco after 41 years. He enjoyed the Republic Kiwanis for many years; in retirement he had a lawn service and worked part-time for Murney Associates.
Survivors include his wife Marsha of 29 years, five daughters, Terri O’Reilly (Scott), Lisa Sobecki (Edward), Becky Holmes (Kevin), Debbie Schatz (Janet) and Vickie Carlstrom (Jim); eight grandchildren; two stepsons, Brian Welde (Suzanne) and John Welde (Shelisa) of Kansas City and their children.
Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, in Meadors Funeral Home in Republic. Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Billings. Burial was at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at Springfield Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
