David Lester Duke

David Lester Duke, 76, of Republic, passed away on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield. He was born on July 17, 1942, in Springfield, the son of the late LeRoy A. Sr. and Kathalene F. (Hodges) Duke.
Duke served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and retired from the Army on July 21, 1976.  He later was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail handler.
He was united in marriage to Iris Edwina Maness on Oct. 22, 1983, in Clever, and have made their home in Republic since that time.
Duke was preceded in death by his parents; and a step son, Dwayne Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Iris; his four children, Tammy Burke, Heidi Murphy, Donald Duke, and Deborah Hunsaker and their families; his three step children, Michael Jones, Rickie Jones, and Yvonne Houston, and their families; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, LeRoy A. Duke, Jr. and Paul K. Duke, and their families; and many other extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., with the funeral service to begin at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Burial will follow the service in Harrington Cemetery, Republic, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans and Military Coalition of the Ozarks (VMCO) 1440 State Highway 248, Ste.
