Don H. Carter

Don H. Carter, 94, of Republic died June 14, 2022, from complications of congestive heart failure.
Carter was raised in Halltown by his late parents, Art and Gertie Carter, alongside his twin brother Ron, and older brother Leo, both now deceased. After high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1945. He then joined his dad in farming in Halltown.
In 1950, Carter had a blind date with a girl by the name of Katheryn Letsinger, who was from Sarcoxie but living and working in Springfield. They were married in 1951 and celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in April. They had three children: Bruce, Donna Kaye and Shirley.
After Carter’s father retired from farming, Carter decided to attend telegraphy school and went to work in 1957 for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Carter retired in 1998 as a Star Agent.
Kay and Don returned to Missouri to be closer to family in 2005 and settled in Republic. Due to declining health, Carter had to be admitted to the Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, in 2014 and lived there until his death.

Carter’s final wishes were to be cremated and buried in the family plot at Garoutte Cemetery, Republic. His inurnment will be decided at a later date.
