Don Harris

Don Harris, 78, of Republic peacefully passed away on May 16, 2022 surrounded by loved ones at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
Harris was born Jan. 7, 1944 to Orvin and Mildred Harris in Harrison, Ark. He attended Woodruff High School in Peoria and then enlisted in the Army. He served in Korea and received many medals for his bravery. He worked at and retired from Caterpillar in Mossville. He was passionate about handywork and loved to create and build things with his own two hands. His creativity inspired his nickname “Handy Andy.” He also always had a strong love for classic cars. He bought, fixed up and sold over 400 cars in his life. His favorite pastime was attending car shows.
He married Mary, the love of his life in 1983 and together they had a lovely blended family. They cherished each of their children, Sheila (Brian), Michael (Robin), Dawn (Robert), Angelita and Krista (Ethan). 
Harris was predeceased by a sister, his father, a grandson, his mother, his daughter, and his great-grandson. He is survived by his sister, his brother, four children, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 10-11 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2022 with a funeral service following at Life360 Chesterfield. Burial with full military honors followed at 1 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Royal Family Kids Camp, a nonprofit organization ministering to Foster Kids that Harris was passionate about.
