GENEVIEVE (GENNY) L. HAMMERS

Genevieve (Genny) L. Hammers, 77, of Republic passed away July 5, 2023. She was born Oct. 29, 1945, in Freistatt, to Norman and Regina (Kottmeyer) Doss. She married Patrick Hammers July 16, 1966. In this marriage two daughters were born, Christina Hammers and Pamela Hammers.
Hammers went to St. John’s School of Nursing. Upon graduation in June of 1966, she started working at St. John’s Hospital, now Mercy. She obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in nursing a few years later. She worked in many areas in nursing. She worked in psychiatrics, medical surgical care, home health and many other areas. Hammers was nurse administrator at St. John’s for many years. She was the first infection control nurse at St. John’s Hospital. She was the Director of Nursing at Smith Glynn Callaway Clinic for 20 years. She retired in 2001. Hammers worked part-time for Mercy evaluating clinics.
Hammers had a strong faith in God. She was a founding member of Hope Lutheran Church in Republic. She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and a volunteer at the Council of Churches of the Ozarks.
Hammers is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Patrick.
Survivors include daughters Christina Hammers, Pamela Hammers and Deborah Jackson; and her brother Douglas Doss and his wife Kathy.
A visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2023, at Meadors Funeral Home, at the Republic chapel. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the IOOF Cemetery, Monett.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Judes's Children's Hospital.
