Girls golf season comes to an end at sectionals; soccer continues to near .500 record on the regular season

The Lady Tiger girls golf team sent two members to Count Creek on Monday, Oct. 14, to compete in the Class 2, Sectional 3 round
of the state golf tournament. Megan Mahan ended the round with a 103 and Haylee Bogner finished with a 106. The cut-off score to advance
to state was 92. “It’s a great accomplishment for the girls to get the opportunity to compete at this level,” said head coach Matt Stone. “This was Haylee’s second year in a row to make it and she will return next year for her senior season. Megan went from a girl that had never played golf her freshman year to earning All-District honors and advancing to sectionals her senior year. She made tremendous progress her four years and is going to
be greatly missed. I was extremely proud of the way the girls competed at sectionals and represented our school.”
Soccer
In boys soccer, Willard hosted Nixa on Tuesday, Oct. 15, but fell in overtime 1-0.
“I am very proud of these young men,” said head coach Tim Magee. “They could’ve had a hangover after the loss to Bolivar but they played
very hard and composed against one of the best teams not only in the COC but also in southwest Missouri. This kind of effort will take us deep in the postseason. We’ve now set the bar high so we have to push ourselves to attain it.”
The Tigers are now 9-11 on the season and were scheduled to play at Ozark on Tuesday before hosting Springfield Catholic tomor- row night.
