Gladys McCune

On July 21, 2022, Gladys (Cox) Fuhr McCune passed away surrounded by her family at Ozarks Methodist Manor.
McCune was born in Greene County, west of Republic at her grandmother’s farm; the daughter of Samuel Cox and Goldie Batson Cox on April 28, 1928.
McCune graduated from Republic High School in 1946, and later married Ted Fuhr in Columbus, Kan. on Feb. 14, 1947. Together they raised two daughters, Joan and Erma Lee Fuhr.
McCune was a farmer’s wife who gardened to feed her family with what she grew and preserved; nothing ever went to waste. She milked cows every morning before she left to go to work at the garment factory and came home and started again.

McCune and her husband Ted enjoyed 57 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in March 2004. McCune later married Reverend Brent McCune. While they only had a brief time together, they enjoyed traveling and making memories with the time he had before his death in June 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

McCune is survived by her daughters Joan (Bill) Martin and Erma Lee Fees, both of Marionville, four bonus kids, whom she affectionately referred to as “The Mt. Vernon Kids; Kay (Ron) Lincoln, Brent (Beverly) McCune, Barbara McCune, and Ken (Shyre) McCune, four granddaughters, 12 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Monday, July 25 at Meadors Funeral Home in Republic. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Pritchett Cemetery, west of New Hope Baptist Church on Lawrence 1217.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the funeral home on behalf of the Gladys McCune Scholarship Fund for New Hope Baptist Church children’s camp at Baptist Hill.
