Hines retires as Ash Grove Elementary principal after 27 years

Dr. Sheila Cox-Hines, principal of Ash Grove Elementary School, has retired, effective Thursday, Nov. 1. She worked in the district for 27 years.
Dr. Aaron Gerla, superintendent of Ash Grove Schools, announced Dr. Hines’ retirement in his October newsletter, in which he expressed the district’s appreciation to Dr. Hines for her efforts on behalf of Ash Grove students over the course of her tenure with the district.
“We would like to thank Dr. Hines for all the time and effort that she brought forth during her time here and wish her the best in retirement,” he said.
In response to a media inquiry, Dr. Hines said she chose to retire due to a personal matter. She declined to comment on the record further, requesting privacy.
Mary Mays will fill in for Dr. Hines as Ash Grove principal for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year. According to Dr. Gerla’s newsletter, Mays is the former principal of Bois D’Arc Elementary School.
“Our school is in good hands with Mrs. Mays, and we want to welcome her back to the Pirate family,” he said.
Dr. Gerla also said the district would begin accepting applications for the position of Ash Grove Elementary School principal in January of 2019, and they “anticipate a great pool of candidates to pick from.”
