Hwy. 160 and AB roundabout nixed by MoDOT

Hwy. 160 and AB roundabout nixed by MoDOT

Following input received during and after a May public meeting, adjustments have been made to plans for the widening of Route 160 between Springfield and Willard, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The most notable change is the removal of a roundabout at the intersection of Route 160 and Greene County Route AB in Willard. Comments provided by residents, drivers and Willard School District officials resulted in a decision by MoDOT engineers to remove the roundabout, but add turn lanes on Route AB approaching Route 160. A new traffic signal also will be installed to replace the existing signal.

The updated intersection map for Route 160 at Greene County Route AB is available on the project website and at Willard City Hall, 224 W. Jackson Street.

Highway 160 will be widened to four lanes between I-44 in Springfield and Jackson Street in Willard
There will also be a resurfacing of the existing lanes of Route 160 between I-44 in Springfield and Greene County Route AB in Willard.
Work will also be done to improve various intersections between I-44 in Springfield and Jackson Street in Willard.
A pedestrian underpass will also be installed at Hunt Road for the Frisco Highline Trail. Construction on the project will begin mid-summer 2019 to late 2020, at a total estimated cost of $18.6 million.

Willard City Administrator Brad Gray is looking forward to the highway improvements overall, even without the roundabout.
“The Willard community is excited about the new four-lane highway and its completion in 2020. The new highway will improve safety and decrease commute times between Willard and Springfield.”
