Jimmie Dewitt Riley

Jimmie Dewitt Riley was born Dec. 26, 1935 to Howard Riley and Gertrude (Hicks) Riley. He was born in the home in Skidmore. He was baptized at the First Christian Church of Tarkio, on Aug. 8, 1957. He graduated from high school in Tarkio. He was very active in the music department. He was the drum major his senior year of high school. He attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, and Parson College in Fairfield, Iowa. He received his LPN at Letterman in San Francisco, Calif. He was a member of Alpha Lamba Sigma, a cheerleader and active in the music department while in college.
While attending college in Tarkio, he met the love of his life, Lorraine Emily Carothers. They were united in marriage on Aug. 6, 1961 at Presbyterian Church in Manilla, Iowa. They were married for 57 years. To this union there were four children born, Laura Ann, Sara Nadine, and Andrew Howard. There were six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Riley served his country for 26 and a half years in the United States Army. He was a member of Westside Christian Church in Republic. He had been a deacon, elder, and sang solos. He was a member of the American Legion, Lion’s Club, Missouri Retired Teachers Association and AUSA.
Survivors include Laura Ann Henson and Sara Nadine (Robert) Dysinger of Clever, and Andrew Howard (Amie) Riley of Tarkio; three sisters-in -laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Riley was preceded in death by his parents, baby daughter, wife Lorraine Emily, five sisters, four brothers, two nieces and two nephews. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2022, at Westside Christian Church in Republic, with burial following at Brookline Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
