JoAnn Hays Adams

JoAnn Hays Adams, originally of Clever, most recently of Springfield passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022.
Adams was born March 13, 1934, the second of five children to Berchard and Roxie (Pope) Hays. She was a 1952 graduate of Clever Schools and later in life obtained an associate of arts degree.
Adams was a hard worker, having worked at an area garment factory, then several years at Royal McBee, retiring from Litton after many years.
Adams’ greatest joy was her son Robert, who sadly preceded her in death in January of 2020. She married the love of her life, Sam Adams, in May of 1989. They made their home in Phoenix, Ariz. for the next 10 years. He passed away in 2001.
Adams had been a member of the DAR, a CASA volunteer, and avid tracer of genealogy, enjoyed the Springfield Symphony events at Juanita K. Hammonds, concerts and travel. She was instrumental in founding Clever’s first library.
In addition to Sam, Robert, and her parents, Adams was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Hays, sister-in-law Peg Hays, and numerous other beloved family members.
Adams is survived by her brother Bud Hays, sisters Jane (Ron) Stevens, and Susan (Dan) Compton, sister-in-law Mary Hays; her aunt and uncle, Jackie (Pope) and Gerald Little, numerous cousins, nine nieces and nephews, including her loving niece, Audrey Benedict, who had been a caretaker for Adams the past two years.
There was a graveside service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 at Evergreen Cemetery, Republic. Adams was laid to rest between her beloved son and husband. In lieu of flowers, donations to Convoy of Hope would be greatly appreciated.
