John “Mike” McGilvry

John “Mike” McGilvry, 81, of Ash Grove passed away, on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018.
McGilvry, the son of Herman O. and Nadine (Pierpont) McGilvry, was born in Springfield, on Aug. 11, 1937.  McGilvry married Wilma Ruth Redfearn on March 10, 1957, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
McGilvry graduated from Bois D’Arc High School in 1955, he then went on to faithfully serve in the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy, he went into the National Guard and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer (W3). While in the National Guard he began his farming career and in 1982 he purchased the land with the famous Round Barn. McGilvry had many hobbies and liked to keep busy with hot rods, fishing, flying, and creating stories. His favorite hobby was spending time with his family, whom he absolutely adored.  
McGilvry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma; and brother, Thomas McGilvry .
McGilvry is survived by his children, Pam Dean and husband Danny, Michael McGilvry, all of Ash Grove; grandchildren, Bryan Dean and wife Stephanie of Ash Grove, Jessica Sledge and husband Eli of Lee’s Summit, Devin Dean and fiancé Katie Skelton of Willard, Landon McGilvry and wife Melissa of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Avery Dean, Hadley (Hattie) Dean, Jackson Sledge, Cassidy McGilvry; brother, Daniel McGilvry and wife Vickie of Lone Jack; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.
Visitation was Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. in the Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove. Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at 2 p.m., at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove. Burial followed in Ash Grove Cemetery, Ash Grove.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Bois D'Arc United Methodist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
