John Curtis Lisenby

John Curtis Lisenby, 94, of Willard passed away Aug. 15, 2022. Lisenby was born in Springfield June 18, 1928, to Bryan and Hattie (Swinney) Lisenby. On Nov. 24, 1951, John and Phyllis Patterson were united in marriage and shared over 66 years together before her passing in 2018.
Lisenby began his education in a one room schoolhouse, at the Willey School. He faithfully served in the United States Army and served two tours in Korea. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 676, Springfield.
After his time in the military, he came home and began working as a sheet metal worker. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Worker Local 36 Union for over 70 years. John also enjoyed farming and showing cattle throughout the midwest. He was a board member and treasurer of Wesley Cemetery; as well as a member and Sunday school secretary at Willard First Baptist Church.
Lisenby is preceded in death by his parents; wife Phyllis; granddaughter, Jenna Lisenby; and brother, George Lisenby.
Lisenby is survived by his daughter, Lisa Johnston and husband Ron of Plano, Texas;  son, Greg Lisenby and wife Kim of Walnut Grove; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; brother Jim Lisenby; sisters Fran Vick and husband Richard, Katy Walch; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
Visitation was at 11 a.m. until service time, Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at Willard First Baptist Church, Willard. Funeral services began at noon, at the church, with burial following at Wesley Cemetery, Willard.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Wesley Cemetery and can be left with the funeral home.
