Lady Pirates open season with 11-point victory over Crane

The winter sports season has started for the Ash Grove High School boys and girls basketball teams, as the girls opened the season with a win, while the boys fell in a close contest.
The Lady Pirates hosted Crane on Monday, Nov. 25, and came away with
an 11-point, 67-56 victory. Ash Grove scored 14 points in the first quarter and 22 points in the second quarter. The Lady Pirates added 16 points in the third quarter and ended the game with 15 points in the fourth quarter to win the game.
Kennedi Climer led the Lady Pirates with 16 points; Brittany Gilliland added 13 points and Briley Bagley
ended the game with 11 points. Ash Grove had 27 total rebounds and 20 steals in the win.
The Lady Pirates will spend the week at home as they will host the Lady Pirate Classic, scheduled to start on Monday and run through Saturday.
On the boys side, the Pirates traveled to Purdy on Tuesday, Nov. 26, and
came home with a 48-41 loss. Cody Raney led Ash Grove with 17 points and Nate Trammell chipped in 13 points in the game.
Ash Grove will now play Lockwood in the first round of the Dennis Cornish Classic in Lockwood tomor- row. The tournament is scheduled to run tomorrow through Saturday.
