Lady Tiger tennis team finishes fourth at Kickapoo

A new-look lineup showed promise for the Republic tennis team at the Kickapoo Invitational to open the season over the weekend. Republic won a close match against Central, lost a close one to Bolivar, then lost a rain-shortened match against Kickapoo. All three of those opponents are among the consistently successful girls tennis programs in the area.
“Every player contributed, won matches, and played really well sometime during the long day,” said new coach David Smashey. “It’s given us confidence that we can compete with really good teams, but also helped us know where we can get better — really, exactly what you want from a start-of-the-season tournament.”
