Lady Tigers’ hot bats fuel perfect softball start

Republic scored 27 runs in just two games, beating Buffalo 16-2, then shutting out Hillcrest 11-0, to run its softball record to 3-0 to start the season.
At Buffalo, A.J. Fenske homered and drove in five runs, in addition to pitching five innings to pick up the win in the circle. Republic totaled 11 hits in all. Riley Laub    was    3-for -3    with    a walk. Kaitlyn Ragsdale, Megan Weis, and Jaci West added two hits apiece for the Lady Tigers. Weis scored four runs, while Ragsdale, Fenske, Katie Anderson,
Laub, and West each scored twice. Weis also threw out a runner at the plate from center field.
In their home opener against Hillcrest, Republic’s offense exploded for runs on 13 base hits. Katie Ander- son, Avery Romans, Jaden Gibbs, and Jaci West had two hits apiece. Romans also pitched a five-inning shutout and only allowed one runner to reach second base. A six-run fourth in- ning put the game away for Republic.
