Lola R. Gardner

Lola R. Gardner, 84, of Walnut Grove, passed away, Friday, Oct. 11, 2019. She was born April 21, 1935 in Nixa, to William Enos and Malissa “Pearl” (Thompson) Cook. On Aug. 9, 1952, Lola and Billy Gene Gardner were united in marriage. They shared
over 59 years, before Gene’s passing in 2012.
Gardner was a longtime Walnut Grove area resident. She worked for 24 years as a nursing assistant at St. John’s in the pediatric unit during the 3rd shift, so she could also be at home to take care of her family. She loved her farm. Taking care of her pets and chickens were especially important to her. She spoiled them by making cornbread for the chickens and buttered toast, without the crust, for her dog Ruby.
Gardner is survived by her sons; Gordon Gardner and wife Thresa of Ash Grove, John Gardner of Ash Grove, Rick Gardner and wife Michelle of Republic; daughters, Marilyn Ashby and husband John of Walnut Grove, Teresa Sample and husband Tony of Springfield, Vicki Joplin and husband Arnold of Ash Grove, Sheri Long and husband Terry of Willard, 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Nona Blevins of Highlandville; nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.
Gardner was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; eight brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019 at Walnut Grove First Baptist Church, Walnut Grove. Graveside services will begin promptly at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
