Mary Catherine Underwood

Mary Catherine Underwood, 92, of Ash Grove, passed away Nov. 16, at the Ash Grove Health Care Facility.
She was born in Ash Grove April 15, 1927 to Porter and Lillie (West) Elkins. She married Vernon Underwood in October of 1948 and to this union four children were born.
She and Vernon shared many years on the fam- ily farm until her husband’s death on Nov. 7, 1985. After his passing she sold the farm and moved to Ash Grove. She loved walking for exercise in the Ash Grove City Park.
She taught Sunday school in the children’s depart- ment at Center Baptist Church where she remained a member. For the past seven years she has been a resident of the Ash Grove Health Care Facility and considered the staff and other residents her family.
Underwood is survived by: son, John (Jame) Un- derwood of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Carolyn (David) Wiese of Ash Grove, Cathy (Jerry) Sanders of Selma, Ala. and Missy (Jerry) McCroskey of Morrisville; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Murray of Willard and Wanda Collins of Calumet, Calif.
Graveside services were held Nov. 18, 2019 in Sink- ing Creek Cemetery Everton with Rev. Mark Fugitt officiating under the direction of Birch Funeral Home in Ash Grove.
