McMillin’s 24 points pace Republic against Clever

Clever came to Republic with plans for an upset, and the Blue Jays looked like they would have a chance to pull it off for a while. But Republic dominated the second and fourth quarters, out-scoring the Blue Jays 38-18 during those 16 minutes, on the way to a 66-46 win. Drew McMillin led Republic with 24 points.
Coach Tim Brown wasn’t surprised by Clever’s effort. “This is what I thought we would see,” Brown said. “It’s a proud program that’s had a lot of success. It’s a
basketball school and it’s a program that has had suc- cess in the postseason and had success in the Blue and Gold (Tournament), and they schedule up to play pro- grams like us for a reason. We knew we were going to get their best shot.”
McMillin’s 24 points were a season high. In four games this season, McMillin has scored more than 20 points three times.
McMillin’s fellow guard, Race Looney, chipped in with 14 points and played tough defense on the perimeter
to help the Tigers force 19 turnovers by the Blue Jays. An 18-5 run late in the second quarter helped Re- public get control of the game. Clever cut the lead to seven points briefly in the third quarter, but never got
closer than that. Republic improved to 3-1
overall.
