Opening week for Ash Grove basketball

Both the Ash Grove boys and girls basketball teams opened up their 2018-19 season last week, and both fell victim to losses, as the Lady Pirates bowed to Crane and the Pirates lost to Purdy.
For the girls, Ash Grove traveled to Crane on Nov. 19 and played them close the first half, trailing 15-11 after the first quarter and 34-29 at the half. The third quarter though told a different story, as Crane came out on fire and lit up the scoreboard for 23 points, while holding the Lady Pirates to just nine points to increase their lead to 57-38.
Ash Grove outscored Crane, 18-11 in the final quarter to make the game closer than it was but lost, 68-56.
Kennedi Climer led Ash Grove with 20 points; Emma Eagleburger and Khloe Moad each ended the game with 12 points apiece.
The Lady Pirates will host the Ash Grove Classic this week. The tournament began on Monday and will run through Dec. 1.
On the boys side, Ash Grove hosted Purdy on Nov. 20, but lost 51-45.
Ash Grove will take part in the Dennis Cornish Classic starting tomorrow and ending on Dec. 1.
