Paul Alan Steward

Paul Alan Steward, born Oct. 26, 1951 in Cameron, to William Forrest and Juanda Carolyn Steward died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020 at the age of 68 at his home in Republic, surrounded by his loved ones after a long and well-fought battle with cancer.
Steward attended Kidder school until it merged with neighboring Hamilton school system when he was a junior in high school. He graduated from Penny High School in 1970. After graduating from high school, he attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, graduating in December of 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
Steward was blessed with two children, Ginger and Jeremiah from a previous marriage to Diana Barron whom he met in high school. After graduating from college, he taught Industrial Arts at Breckenridge, and then Penny High School in Hamilton. In 1983 he began teaching Industrial Arts at Reeds Spring High School where he would remain until his retirement in 2007.
In the early 90s, he began making regular visits to Springfield, to take Ginger to the orthodontist’s office where he met Judee Bruner. The two began dating and on June 29, 1992 Paul and Judee were married in Springfield. Judee had three children from a previous marriage who became Paul’s step children Cyndi, Mark, and Matt. During the following years, the couple welcomed their 11 grandchildren and spent as much time as they could with them. The couple sold their home in Reeds Spring and eventually moved to Republic in 2009.
Steward had a passion for tractors, especially John Deere tractors, and was a loyal attendee of the annual Republic Steam and Gas Engine show.
Steward’s multiple myeloma diagnosis in January 2011 became a large part of the last decade of his life. He had a stem cell transplant in the summer of the same year and remained under various treatments and therapies for the remainder of his life.
Steward was preceded in death by his father Forrest and mother Juanda, and father-in-law Charles Fuhr. He is survived by his wife Judee of Republic, his daughter Ginger (Phil) Weaver, son Jeremiah (Heather) Steward, step-daughter Cynthia (Greg) Spaethe, step-son Mark (Angie) Bruner, step-son Matthew (Kara) Bruner, his brother Bill (Linda) Steward, brother Noel Steward, sister Lisa (Jim) West, and 11 grandchildren, and mother-in-law MaeBelle Fuhr. Survivors include 11 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at First Christian Church in 443 North Main St. in Republic, on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 p.m. Burial directly followed the service.
