Pete Hansen, 78, of Republic, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 at Republic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, which he had been a resident of since September 2019. He was born Aug. 6, 1941 in Aurora, to Nelson and Edna (Saunders) Hansen. He was the youngest of seven children, and the only boy.
Hansen was an active member of the Shriners in Springfield. He worked as the fire chief in Republic for many years and he also worked for the city repairing the police and fire vehicles. He was an avid fisherman and fishing guide; having taken four sitting presidents on guided Bass fishing trips on the lakes that he truly loved. Hansen relocated to Reeds Spring when he retired, so that he could spend his retirement by the lakes that he so loved.
Hansen is preceded in death by his parents and five sisters. Left to mourn his passing are his sister, Grace C. Brown of Springfield; nephew JB Brown and wife Mary and their three children, of Republic, niece, Carolyn Haden and husband Tobie, and their three children, of Republic, one great-great-niece and one great-great-nephew, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Hansen and Charlie Campbell were the closest of friends, fishing was both their passions. Pete and Charlie passed away on the same day, only a few short hours apart .. rest assure they are both up in heaven in a boat fishing together for eternity.
Due to the ongoing restrictions stemming from COVID-19 graveside services will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Republic.
