Phyllis Jan (Rand) Van Someren

Phyllis Jan (Rand) Van Someren, 65, of Springfield, passed away on Dec. 17, 2019. Someren was born in Joplin, to Freeman and Ethel Rand on Dec. 17, 1954.
Someren attended Parkview High School and gradu- ated in 1973. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at Southwest Missouri State University (Missouri State University) and spent over 20 years working as a preschool educator. She spent five years working as a director at KinderCare Daycare Center and then eight years at Cox Daycare Center. In 1992, she left the professional work life to spend more time with her two daughters, but she never stopped loving kids.
Someren is survived by her two daughters, Dawn Abney and husband Tray Abney of Reno, Nev., and April Cassada of Springfield; two grandsons Noah and Asher; and her brother Mike Rand and wife Vicky of Willard, and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Someren was an active member of James River As- sembly of God where she enjoyed fellowship with her bible study friends and weekly worship.
Visitation was Monday, Dec. 23, 2019 from 4-5 p.m., at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, 2001 W. Wal- nut Lawn St., Springfield. Memorial services followed starting at 5 p.m., in the funeral home. Her care has been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd. DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory.
