Pirate football loses to state-ranked Pierce City Eagles in lopsided affair

The Ash Grove High School football team traveled to Class 1, second ranked Pierce City on Sept. 20 and the Lady Pirates volleyball team traveled to Buffalo on Sept. 19, one came home with a win, one didn’t.
The Pirates were held scoreless in the game against the powerful Eagles squad on homecoming night, falling to Pierce City, 46-0.
After neither team could score on their first posses- sion, the Eagles marched 59 yards and scored on a 40-yard pass from Colten O’Hara to Dominick Smith to take a 6-0 lead with 3:14 to go in the first quarter.
Chanse Ford ran it in from three yards out, with 9:43 to go in the second quarter to give the Eagles a 13-0 lead in the second quarter. O’Hara ran it in from seven yards out with 48 seconds left in the quarter, to give Pierce City a 20-0 lead.
The Eagles added three more scores in the third quarter, on a 30-yard run from O’Hara, a five-yard pass from O’Hara to Trenton Kluck and a 40-yard inter- ception return from Kluck with 4:37 to go in the quarter to take a 40-0 lead.
The Eagles added their fi- nal score with three minutes left in the game on a 20-yard run from Peyton Moening to make the score 46-0.
Ash Grove is now 2-2 on the season and will host
Miller Sept. 27. With the loss, the Pirates are now in sixth place in the Class 1, District 2 standings with 30.83 points. Thayer leads the district with 60.5 points; followed by Miller (52.17 points), Pierce City (48.83 points), Cabool (45.92 points), Marionville (32.14 points), Ash Grove, Sarcoxie (24.75 points) and Diamond (22.67 points).
