Republic Chamber looking to soon hire new executive director
Chamber’s only paid position will start out part-time, with a progression to full-time gig
The Republic Chamber of Commerce announced they will begin looking for a new executive director during their general membership luncheon on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The new director will fill the vacancy left by Tonya Hammons, who resigned in November of 2020.
“We’ve had some informal interest in the position, but plan to take formal action and post the position in the coming weeks,” said Brendon Bay. “We feel the most responsible approach for this position is to begin in a somewhat part-time role and work back into a full-time position as the year progresses.”
Board member Josh Troester said the board is still working out what the new director’s duties will be.
“That’s something that we’re still in discussion with as of now,” he said. “As we’re looking at and reflecting on the past and looking towards the future and the chamber’s needs of the future, we want to make sure that this person can fill the gaps of everything we need to make the chamber move forward successfully.”
The board is also working out how they will maintain communications with the new director.
“That’s going to depend on who the individual is and what type of position we end up hiring whether that’s full-time or part-time, and that’s something we will work out with that individual,” said board member Josey McPhail.
COVID-19 was hard on the chamber in 2020, which resulted in the closure of their physical office.
