Republic Lady Tigers catch fire, take two at Nixa Invitational

The Republic Lady Tigers caught fire in the fourth quarter two days in a row, beating Olathe East and Nixa in their two games at the Nixa Invitational.
Friday, Republic trailed 28-22 at the beginning of the fourth period against Olathe East. But Republic scored 23 points in the final eight minutes to come from behind and win, 45-37. The Lady Tigers trailed by as many as eight points in the fourth quarter before mounting their late rally.
“It was a heck of a win. That’s a good team,” said coach Kris Flood. “That’s a very nice team that we just played. We’ll take it any way it happened.”
Kaemyn Bekemeier led the charge for Republic, scoring 12 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter. Jade Kirby added two field goals during the final flurry of scoring, including a three-pointer that pulled Republic even after Olathe East had buried a trey at the other end of the floor.
After losing the rebounding battle for the first three quarters, Republic managed to seal off the glass during its comeback and ended up tying Olathe East in the rebound department. Each team had 24 boards for the game.

Saturday against Nixa, Clara Fronabarger scored 19 points to lead Republic. The Lady Tigers and Lady Eagles were even for most of the first three quarters, but Republic used a 15-2 run at the beginning of the fourth period to take control.
