Republic Lady Tigers tennis team wins Nixa Tournament

Coach Dan Vales and the varsity tennis team show off their championship trophy at Nixa.

For the first time ever, the Republic girls tennis team won the Nixa Tournament championship. Of the four brackets, Republic won two of them. Kaitlyn Snyder was the champion in No. 1 singles, and Carly McAtee and Hannah Morgan teamed up to win the No. 2 doubles bracket.
Snyder needed a big comeback to win her championship. She fell behind 6–3 against Clever’s Brooke Buehler, and both players thought the match had ended. In earlier rounds, matches were played to six – but coaches had agreed the championship matches would be decided by the first player to eight. Given new life, Snyder won five games in a row to win 8–6. She improved to 19–1 this season and became the first Republic girl to win the Nixa singles draw since Samantha Minor.
In No. 2 singles, Katie Stiles finished second, dropping the championship match to Jennifer Hardy, one of Nixa’s top two players. Stiles plays at the No. 4 spot in Republic’s lineup during dual play.
Jordyn Gianopulos and Isabella Freeman teamed up for the first time this year at No. 1 doubles, losing in the semifinals but returning to win the third place match over Nixa, 6–2. Their win clinched the overall team title for Republic.
In No. 2 doubles, McAtee and Morgan cruised, winning the championship 8–2 over Nixa.
