Republic softball stays unbeaten in COC, but stumbles during weekend tourney

After a fast start to the season, Repub- lic’s busy schedule may have caught up to it during the weekend Ozarks Fall Festival Tourna- ment. The Lady Tigers went 2-3 against stiff competition after starting the season
with seven straight wins.
During conference play on Tuesday and Thursday, the Lady Tigers beat Neosho, 3-1, and Carl Junction, 7-2. In the Carl Junction game, A.J. Fenske homered to lead the Lady Tigers.
Republic opened tourna- ment play with a thrilling 5-4 win over Lee’s Summit West. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning—
the last inning because of a tournament-imposed time limit—the Lady Tigers scored four times to come from behind. Katie Anderson drove in the game-winner.
Parkway Central beat Republic 6-2 in the second game of the tournament, and Republic knocked off Richmond,5-3,tofinishplay on Friday.
In bracket play Saturday, Republic lost twice. Monett avenged an earlier loss with a 12-4 win, and Republic fell short against Marquette 9-8. The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the final inning but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Despite the three-loss weekend, the Lady Tigers are 7-3 through 10 games.
