Republic spring sports wrap up at state competition in Columbia

Republic competed in two events in the Class 5 state track meet Saturday in Columbia, but fell short of the medal stand in both. The top finish for Republic was by Jasmyn Douglas in the 800-meter run. She finished 11th with a time of 2:25.03. She ran her first lap in just under 1:07, but faded in the final 300 meters to fall out of medal contention.
Earlier in the day, she had participated in another 800-meter run as part of the 4x800m relay. Douglas anchored that race, which she ran with teammates Delaney Smith, Jazzy Kirby, and Jade Kirby. That team finished 16th.
The Class 5 meet was moved to Columbia Battle High School after a tornado damaged Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City, the original site for the Class 3-5 state meet. Instead of being held with all three classes over two days, only Class 5 competed at Columbia Battle.

Tennis Camp
The Republic tennis program is hosting a summer camp for middle school and high school students this week. The camp runs from May 28-31 at the Republic High School tennis courts.
Students entering grades 7-12 are participating. Republic coaches Dan Vales, David Smashey, and Eric Hanson are leading the camp, along with Larry Haugness, former head pro at Cooper Tennis Complex. Former Republic varsity players are also on hand as coaches.
