Republic sweeps Willard squads on rivalry hoops “Supernight”

Republic and Willard combined their boys and girls basketball games into one big “supernight,” and it was a very good night for Republic, which won all six games––three boys and three girls games.
In the varsity girls game, Jade Kirby scored 13 points to lead the Lady Ti- gers to a win in a defensive- oriented game, 34–31.
“We just persevered on that one,” coach Kris Flood said afterwards. “But, man, it was a struggle. That’s a tough rival game. We could both be 0–20, and everybody’s going to be fired up.”
Republic led most of the night, but Willard re-
took the lead with 1:15 remaining in the fourth quarter. Kirby immediately answered with a driving layup at the other end, and Republic never trailed again.

In the boys’ game, Re- public grabbed the lead with a 13–3 run in the first half, then controlled the pace the rest of the way in a 58–44 win. Broc Smith led Republic with 19 points.
“That was big-time–– kind of setting the tone and being able to dictate the
paceofplaythroughoutthe game,” Brown said of his team’s early lead. “They’re a team that wants to get out and score as many points as they can, and any time you can hold a team that is that explosive on offense to 44 points, that’s a great effort on both ends of the flood. I’m really proud of what our guys did tonight on both ends: taking good shots, making good plays, and then grinding on the offensive end.”

Broc Smith 19, Race Looney 14, Drew McMillin 8, Trent Rackley 7, Jaden Duvall 4, Joe Rexroat 4, Cole Buxton 2
