Republic Tiger baseball team splits conference games

Republic had trouble generating offense in a loss 3-2 to Neosho, but turned things around against Carl Junction, outscoring the Bulldogs 7-5.
Neosho 3 Republic 2 Neosho took advantage of
two unearned runs to beat the Tigers in Republic 3-2. The Wildcats scored two runs in the third inning after an outfield error, and those runs were the difference.
Jared Hughes was the tough-luck loser on the mound for Republic. He allowed just one earned run on six hits in six innings of work, striking out nine batters and walking three. But the Tigers were unable to provide enough run support to reward him for his effort.
Neosho took the lead 1-0 in the first inning after a leadoff walk and a double, followed by a wild pitch. Hughes worked out of trou- ble by striking out the next two hitters and getting a fly ball out to end the inning.
The Tigers briefly took the lead in the bottom of the second. With two outs and nobody on, Pyeatt singled and Nick Rose doubled. Jaden Duvall followed that up with an RBI single.
In the top of the third, Neosho finished the scoring with its two unearned runs, and Wildcats pitcher Jared
Stephens made it hold up. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter, spreading out eight hits through his seven innings of work.
Republic 7 Carl Junction 5 The Republic offense
picked up in a 7-5 home win over Carl Junction. Easton Prevo was 3-for-3 with two runs scored to lead Republic. Jaden Duvall added two base hits for the Tigers. Republic banged out 11 hits and overcame five fielding errors.
A four-run rally in the second inning helped Re- public take control early. Prevo tripled with one out and scored on a passed ball. After Jared Hughes and Nick Rose singled, Jacob Crosswhite hit an RBI double to score a run. Rose scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryker Har- rington, and Duvall singled home Crosswhite.
Carl Junction cut the lead in half with two runs in the top of the third, but Republic scored two more in the bottom of the inning. Clayton Crowley walked and Prevo singled with one out. Two passed balls in the next at-bat allowed Crowley to score and Prevo to advance to third. Another passed ball to the next batter allowed Prevo to score.
Carl Junction scored two runs in the fourth and a single run in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-5, but that was as close as they’d get, thanks to a strong relief pitching performance by Crowley. He worked three
innings, allowing just one unearned run, giving up five hits and walking no one. He struck out three and earned the save.
Evan Smith was the
winning pitcher after relieving Jordan Carter. Smith pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed    two    runs    (both unearned) on one hit. He struck out one and didn’t
walk a batter. Carter pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on two hits, and walking three. Republicimprovedto5-7.
