Republic finished second as a team at the Kinloch Classic wrestling tournament, finishing with 267.5 points behind champion Jackson (293.5). It was the best finish for Republic since 2015, when the Tigers also finished second. Republic was third at Kinloch in 2022.
Keaton Overcast earned gold in his weight class (132 pounds). Overcast beat Kade King of Jackson to capture the championship. Corbin Massey (106 pounds), Phillip George, and Chase Hicks (175) all placed second. Ryland Rogers (120) and Maddox Wilkins (190) were third. Overcast earned 37 points to lead Republic.
The Republic girls competed at the Lady Viking Holiday Tournament. Emily Carter was Republic’s top finisher, placing fourth. Carter won her first three matches to put herself in position for a high finish after struggling at the same tournament a year ago. “Considering what happened all last year, now that I’m actually placing and medaling, it feels good, and I can definitely see improvements. Last year I was like 11th or 12th in my bracket, so to jump up quite a few spots, it feels rewarding,” she said.
