Saundra Louise Schmitt

Saundra Louise Schmitt was born Sunday, Jan. 9, 1949, at St. Johns Hospital, Springfield, to Enze Louise and Clarence Pearce.
Schmitt attended Ed V. Williams Elementary School, Reed Junior High School, and Hillcrest High School, where she was a member of the orchestra and Highlander Drum Corps. She graduated in 1967.
In 1964, she met a skinny red-headed guy named Alan Schmitt. They became best friends and high school sweethearts. Four years later, on Oct. 18, 1968, they married and embarked on a loving journey that would last for 54 years.
On Nov. 28, 1975, Alan and Saundra welcomed their first daughter into the world, Rachel Louise. Eighteen months later, May 27, 1977, the Schmitt family was complete with the birth of Sarah Elizabeth.
In 1971, Schmitt graduated from Southwest Missouri State College with a degree in elementary education. That same year, she began what would be a 25 year teaching career at Ash Grove Elementary School. Following retirement, she worked at Cox Medical Center North and Lowe’s Home Improvement Store.
After a courageous 12-year battle with congestive heart failure, with her family by her side, she passed away Aug. 22, 2022. She is survived by her husband Alan; daughters Rachel and husband Forrest Wilhite and Sarah and husband Lonny Zack; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Arrangements will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made in her name to CMH Hospice, 1500 N. Oakland, Bolivar, MO 65613.
