STERLING WAYNE GARTON

Sterling Wayne Garton, 88, of Republic passed away Monday, Sept. 4. He was born on Oct. 17, 1934, to Ralph “Jake” and Grace (Inman) Garton in Springfield.
He graduated from Republic High School in 1952, he was the center for the Tigers basketball team and student council president.
He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Walker and owned his own business, Garton Plumbing, Heating and Electrical for many years. Later he owned and operated El Dorado Springs Livestock Auction for over 20 years. In his mid-60s, he developed 40 acres in Republic, building many homes.
He is survived by his children, Steve (Mary) Garton, Kathy Ledbetter, Laurie Piper, Tim (Kathy) Garton, Brad (Lesa) Garton, James (Jinny) Garton, Mike Garton, Stacey (Paul) Pearson, Bobby (Gina) Smith and Dallas (Trish) Smith; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; brothers, John (Jan) Garton and Rick (Laura) Garton and wonderful friend Maya Horner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Roberta (Mac) McGuire and Dixie (Bob) Reynolds; great-grandson, Grady Garton; son-in-law Leland Piper.
Visitation was held on Sept. 12, and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 13, at Meadors Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Ivie officiating.
