Thomas Patterson McPhail

Thomas Patterson McPhail, 86, of Walnut Grove passed away Tuesday morning, March 22, 2022.
McPhail was born March 10, 1936 in Laing, W.V. to William and Annie (Jolly) McPhail. He grew up around the coal mines of the Cabin Creek area. He enlisted in the Army at age 17 and was stationed in Texas where he met his best friend Bill Green, whose wife Donna, introduced him to the love of his life, Sue Holman. Tom and Sue were united in marriage on Nov. 1, 1954. Together they were privileged to share over 56 years, before Sue’s passing in 2011.
McPhail is survived by two sons, Tom McPhail and wife Denise of Ash Grove, and Tim McPhail and wife Brenda, of Republic; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Jim McPhail and wife Barbara of West Virginia, David McPhail and wife Brenda of West Virginia; sister, Nancy Humphrey of West Virginia; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Donna Green of Fair Play; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
McPhail is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue; three brothers; one sister; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2022, at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Walnut Grove. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the funeral home, with internment following at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Aldrich.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in McPhail’s name to Walnut Grove Athletic Department and may be left at the funeral home.
