Tigers boys golf finishes second at Class 4, District 6 tournament

The Willard boys golf team finished second at their dis- trict tournament, while the girls soccer team knocked off Joplin last week.
The Tigers traveled to Carthage on Monday, April 29, to take part in the Class 4, District 6 tournament and came home with a second- place finish.
Joplin took the team title with a team score of 327; Willard was second with a team score of 338; followed by Republic (348), Carthage
(351), Nixa (354), Ray- mour-Peculiar (360), Kickapoo (364), Neosho (372), Belton (412) and Parkview (421).
Greg Mitchals shot a 76 to finish first for the sec- ond year in a row; Nathan MacLaughlin finished fifth with an 82, Sam Shackelford finished 18th, shooting an 89, Brandon White shot a 91 for 22nd place and Logan Wooldridge finished in 37th place with a 100.
“Today was a great day for our team,” said head coach Matt Stone. “To finish second in the district tournament and have the opportunity
to advance to sectionals as ateamisagoalwehavehad for several weeks now. Greg set the pace for us today again with another great round of 76. Nathan played really solid as he has all year to earn all-district honors, and Sam came up huge for us today with his best round of the season. Any time you can still be playing after the district tournament it has been a success.”
Willard will now play in the Class 4, Sectional 3 round in Joplin this week.
Girls soccer
The Lady Tigers soccer
team was able to travel to Joplin and come home with a 3-1 win on Thursday, May 2.
The Class 3, District 11 seedings and game schedules have been released and Willard is the second seed. Glendale is the top seed, Parkview is seeded third and Hillcrest is the fourth seed.
The tournament is sched- uled to get underway on Tuesday, May 14, when Glendale plays against Hillcrest and Willard takes on Parkview. The champion- ship game will be played on Thursday, May 16.
