Volleyball Lady Tigers open season with two home wins, solid play

The Willard High School volleyball and boys soccer teams were both in action last week, as the Lady Tigers won two games, while the Tigers fell to Webb City.
In volleyball, Willard hosted Hillcrest on Thurs- day, Sept. 5, and came away with a straight set victory, 25-15 and 25-14.
Ashton Wildermuth led with 20 assists; Payton Van Veen had nine kills, Emily Terry led with seven digs and Taylor Crighton set the pace with six aces.
“It was a great win against a much improved district opponent in Hillcrest,” said head coach Jamalee Han- cock. “Hillcrest brought a
very scrappy game and chal- lenged us at times. It was nice to see Crighton lead the team at the service line with aces, and Van Veen, who is coming off an ACL surgery, had her best performance since she was cleared late June.”
The Lady Tigers opened the season, on Tuesday, Sept. 3, by hosting Mountain View Liberty and won both games, 25-10 and 25-6.
Wildermuth led with 20 assists; Terry had five aces, Maddy Bushnell led with six kills, Crighton had five digs and Bushnell and Ashley Lasher each had two kill blocks.
“We controlled the match early with great serving and minimal errors for the entire match,” said Hancock. “We
have a lot of fire power, and size at the net, and our de- fense and serve receive kids were playing really well.”
The Lady Tigers were scheduled to travel to Marsh- field on Monday night and will host Logan-Rogersville on Thursday night.
