Willard boys soccer falls to Webb City in close home opener

The Willard boys soccer team hosted Webb City Tuesday, Sept. 3 but lost on penalty kicks, 2-1.
Luke Christensen scored the Tigers lone goal on an assist by Will Johnson.
“I really hate to lose the home opener but we just weren’t able to put the ball in the back of the net,” said head coach Tim Magee. “I can’t say that we dominated the game because in all honesty, they played a better
style of soccer than we did for most of the night. We fell back into bad habits and it hurt us. Even with that said, we out shot Webb and had many more quality opportunities to score, but we just weren’t able to close the deal. It was one of those nights. Give Webb credit though as they played hard and with a lot of energy. Their keeper was on point and played a great game. Hopefully we will learn from this, break some habits and take advantage when opportunities are created.”
The Tigers were sched- uled to host Republic on Tuesday night, before travel- ing to Waynesville on Thurs- day night.
