Willard footballers down Neosho, 28-7, look to final game

Two touchdowns from Garrett Rice and more than 200 yards passing from Reece Dawson, led to a Tigers 28-7 win at Neosho on Friday, Oct. 18.
Rice had a 20-yard run late in the first quarter to give Willard a 7-0 lead and would score again late in the second quarter to put the Tigers up 14 points. Dawson hit Eli Aye with a 38-yard touchdown pass with 44 seconds to go in the half to
put Willard up 21-7. Dawson then threw for another touchdown in the second half to put Willard up 28-7, on a 17-yard scoring strike to Noah Pfiefer.
“It was a very solid effort by the boys,” said head coach Brock Roweton. “We executed well on both sides of the ball for four quarters.”
Dawson led Willard in passing, connecting on 12 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns. Dawson also rushed for 36 yards on seven carries.
Marshall Swadley led the Tigers in rushing, gaining 51 yards on 15 carries, while Rice carried the ball eight times for 40 yards and two touchdowns. Aye led Willard in receiving, gaining 63 yards on three catches with a touchdown; Pfiefer had 45 yards and touchdown, Maurice Grayer caught two passes for 39 yards, Swadley had 32 yards and Rice ended the game with 28 yards on two catches.
With the win, Willard improves to 3-5 on the season
and remains in fourth place in the Class 4, District 6 standings.
Webb City leads the district with 61.75 points; followed by West Plains (50.13 points), Bolivar (48 points), Willard (35.79 points), Carl Junction (35.79 points), Hillcrest (28.23 points), Neosho (23.86 points) and McDonald County (19.21 points).
Willard will host their final regular season game of the year this Friday against Branson.
